Honolulu is the tenth-healthiest city for men, according to Men's Health magazine's Metrogrades list for January and February.

Its overall rank among the Best Cities for Men is No. 26 - it did not receive a top-10 ranking in quality of life or fitness for men.

The top 10 overall best cities for men are Madison, Wis.; St. Paul Minn.; Salt Lake City; Seattle; Aurora, Colo.; San Jose, Calif.; Lincoln, Neb.; San Francisco; Boston; and Minneapolis.

The top 10 for women, according to Women's Health magazine in December, are not all the same cities, though seven of its top 10 are also on the men's list.

Cities that are apparently better for women than men are: Denver; Fargo, N. Dakota; and Manchester, N.H.

Honolulu is the No. 7 healthiest city for women, according to the Men's Health sister-publication.

NYT likes Hawaii

Hawaii got some important ink in the New York Times Travel section on Sunday.

The state was ranked No. 7 of “;The 44 places to go in 2009.”;

The paper of record described Hawaii as one of “;this year's most compelling destinations ... awash in sublime landscapes, cutting-edge art, gala music festivals and stylish new resorts.”;

Or, according to the NYT coverage, renovated resorts.

The Hawaii-segment discussed a special rate at the reopened Royal Hawaiian Hotel, complete with promotional code.

The story also mentioned the dip in visitors causing many resorts and hotels to offer special rates, but referred readers to an online travel portal jointly owned by two newspaper companies, rather than the Hawaii Visitor and Convention Bureau's non-partisan, non-advertising-driven http://www.gohawaii.-com.
