EPA award nominations sought

Local champions of the environment may now be nominated for awards to be presented by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The program recognizes individuals and groups outside the agency that have made significant contributions to improve the environment in 2008.

Anyone can be nominated and will be judged on criteria including promotion of innovative ideas, techniques or technologies; ability to address an environmental problem or need; accomplishment of stated goals; ability to replicate or share the program or activity; collaboration with others; clarity and effectiveness of the presentation, and long-term environmental benefits.

Biz journalism contest open

The Society of American Business Editors and Writers Inc. has issued a call for entries in its annual Best in Business contest.

In addition, it has started a new contest for 2008, the Best of the Best, designed to reward the best work entered in the annual BIB contest, which began in 1995 to help set standards and recognize role models for outstanding business journalism.

Information and official rules can be found at www.sabew.org/contest. The deadline to enter work produced during calendar year 2008 is Jan. 30.

Winners of the Best of the Best awards will be announced at SABEW's annual conference in Denver, April 26 to 28.

 

Credit union scholarships available

Aloha Pacific Federal Credit Union has begun accepting scholarship applications from members in good standing for at least one year.

Ten scholarships of $1,500 will be presented to students enrolled in a baccalaureate or graduate degree program at an accredited college or university, who is attending the school on a full-time basis during the award year.

Scholarships are awarded based on financial need, academic achievement and community service.
