A 28-year-old Honolulu man died in a single-car crash in New Jersey early Friday morning after his brother apparently fell asleep at the wheel.

Reginald Streater, 28, was in Williamstown for a family reunion, according to Monroe Township police.

Shortly before 4:43 a.m. Friday, a 2008 Toyota Avalon was traveling east on Clayton Road in Williamstown when it drifted to the right and ran onto the grass berm, police said.

The car traveled more than 160 feet and struck two mailboxes, police said.

Police said the vehicle then ran into a utility pole with its passenger side, breaking the pole and ejecting the passenger, Streater, who suffered severe trauma to his right leg. The driver, 22-year-old brother Russell Streater, was not injured.

Reginald Streater was flown to Cooper Medical Center in Camden where he later died.

“;The tragedy of it all was that he (Reginald Streater) wanted his brother to drive because he was tired,”; said Monroe Township police Lt. Lou Branda. The crash is still under investigation.
