Chaminade University honored its eighth and longest-serving president, Mary “;Sue”; Civille Wesselkamper, during its fall commencement ceremony Dec. 15. Affectionately known as “;President Sue,”; she was awarded the Doctor of Humane Letters, Honoris Causa, degree. President since 1995, Wesselkamper is considered the driving force of Chaminade's success, raising more than $66 million in the last nine years. She took a medical leave of absence this fall due to the recurrence of inoperable cancer.

  The Honolulu City Lights 24th annual Christmas exhibit collected more than 700 toys and $450 in cash for the Toys for Tots drive Dec. 6-17 at Honolulu Hale. A cargo van was filled with donations during the special appearance of Darth Vader and the “;Star Wars”; stormtroopers of the 501st Legion Pacific Outpost.

A Farrington High School team was recently awarded $10,000 for its outstanding entry in the “;Protecting the Land”; competition in the Lexus Eco Challenge, an educational contest that inspires middle and high school students to improve the environment. The team will participate in the finals for a chance at a $50,000 prize.
