Suspect arrested after hitting pole
A 19-year-old car theft suspect who evaded police Tuesday was arrested early yesterday in Manoa after crashing as he tried to elude capture again.
On Monday a 50-year-old woman's car was stolen in Chinatown, and her son reported it to police. At about 4 a.m. Tuesday, a police sergeant saw the car being driven downtown. But the suspect avoided capture by driving recklessly, police said.
At about 12:45 a.m. yesterday, a patrol officer spotted the vehicle in Manoa and chased the suspect, who sped off. Police said he lost control and struck a telephone pole at the corner of Manoa Road and Nehoa Street.
Police arrested the teenager on suspicion of two counts of auto theft, two counts of reckless driving, second-degree robbery and three outstanding arrest warrants.
A 53-year-old male passenger was arrested on suspicion of second-degree unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle.
Man surrenders in assaults of teen
A 52-year-old Honolulu man was charged Tuesday for allegedly sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl over about seven months.
Richard Dobarro of Kinalau Place was charged with eight counts of first-degree sexual assault, five counts of third-degree sexual assault and two counts of fourth-degree sexual assault.
Police said Dobarro sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl from Sept. 11, 2006, through April 9, 2007. The girl, now 17, reported that the man was an acquaintance.
Dobarro voluntarily met with a police investigator, and turned himself in Monday. His bail was set at $50,000.
