6 pardoned by Lingle lead 'law-abiding lives'

Gov. Linda Lingle granted six pardons in 2008 for a total of 77 during her six years as governor, her office announced yesterday.

“;These individuals made mistakes, which for some were one-time isolated incidents,”; she said in a news release. “;They served their sentences and completed probation, and have led law-abiding lives.”;

Russell Pang, the governor's spokesman, said the Hawaii Paroling Authority and Attorney General's Office made recommendations on the cases and each was reviewed individually.

According to the governor's office, the six are:

» Shelley May Nulton, also known as Shelley Gillis, who was sentenced to one year's probation and a $100 fine for third-degree assault, a misdemeanor, on Dec. 1, 1992. She was pardoned March 10.

» Susitana Tuisamoa Van, also known as Susitana Hardiman, who was sentenced to one year's probation for third- degree assault on Dec. 17, 1999. She was pardoned April 23.

» Christopher M. Marble, who was fined $50 for second-degree criminal trespass, a petty misdemeanor. He was pardoned May 22.

» Kelley Eileen Mee Lan Lau, who served nine months' probation this year for third-degree assault. She earlier was convicted in 1985 of criminal contempt of court, a misdemeanor, and fined $25. She was pardoned July 7.

» Denise Antoinette Martinez, now known as Denise Antoinette Kekumu, who was convicted in 1980 and 1981 of seven offenses that included drug violations, prostitution, disorderly conduct and criminal contempt of court. She was sentenced to 30 days' confinement and completed five years of probation in 1986. She was pardoned Aug. 13.

» Duane Marco Molina, who was convicted in 1992 and sentenced to probation and 60 days in confinement, with 57 days suspended, for abusing a family or household member. He was pardoned Aug. 13.
