Kau Kau serves Christmas feast
Kau Kau Wagon held its annual Christmas of Hope feast for the homeless Saturday in Chinatown with assistance from the 154th Services Flight and 109th Air Operations Group, Hawaii Air National Guard, and the Air Force's 15th Air Wing Services Flight. They donated, cooked or served 40 turkeys.
Jamba Juice provided 30 cases of bottled water, apple juice, mashed potatoes, turkeys, yams, cranberry sauce and candy canes.
P.F. Chang's restaurant donated rice for 500; the Honolulu Baking Co., 600 servings of pumpkin pie; Starbucks, coffee; and Y. Hata, bananas and oranges.
The City and County of Honolulu awarded 32 grants totaling $2 million to the Leeward Coast Community Benefits Program, which offers important services to youth, families, the disabled, seniors and the general community. Mayor Mufi Hannemann initiated the program in 2006 to help offset the impact of having the Waimanalo Gulch landfill in the area. Projects funded were in Makakilo, Kalaeloa, Kapolei, Honokai Hale/Nanakai Gardens, Ko Olina, Nanakuli, Maili, Waianae, Makaha and Keaau.
Hawaii Self Storage-Kapolei gave $2,600 raised during its Family Fun Festival last Monday to Kapolei Drama Club, which received $1,200; Kapolei Public Library, $700; and Kalaeloa Outreach, $700. The festival celebrated the opening of the locally owned company's fifth Oahu location.
American Savings Bank is accepting donations in support of the Lanakila Multi-Purpose Senior Center, run by Catholic Charities Hawaii. American Savings Bank will match donations up to $10,000.
