  With the economy in such bad shape this year, local promoters Shane Curtis and Paul Moor wanted to come up with an affordable way to welcome 2009 in Honolulu.

Their solution? Rent out the Alii Kai Catamaran and offer a full night of entertainment for $50. Check-in begins at 9 p.m., with live performances on board by Pimpbot and Lovechile, with DJ Mixmaster B and host Sean Danger (pictured) also on hand to keep the party going until 1:30 a.m. Call 497-8451 for VIP reservations.

Xyloh

  One of the few 18-and-over New Year's Eve parties this year takes place at Xyloh, when the promoters behind the club's weekly “;Shock”; party host “;Zero Nine”; on Wednesday.

Doors open at 9 p.m. that night, with a $20 cover charge in effect and a dozen DJs spinning a mix of house and trance. Free glowsticks, CDs and other giveaways are planned, plus an ice luge will be on hand for those old enough to drink. The fun is scheduled to last until 6 a.m.
