HPU's Sellitto reaches 300 wins
Hawaii Pacific basketball coach Tony Sellitto earned the 300th win of his career when he led the Sea Warriors over Coe College 79-72 yesterday at the Neal Blaisdell Arena.
Sellitto had to reach the milestone without his starting point guard, as Jason Curtis left the game with a sprained ankle in the first half. Chris Evans and Mike Helton shared the scoring lead for HPU with 15 points apiece.
The Sea Warriors improved to 5-3 for the season, while the Kohawks dropped to 5-5. HPU hosts Hillsdale College in its next game on Friday.
Vulcan men win big at home
Perry Baggett posted 18 points and 15 rebounds to lead Hawaii-Hilo past Illinois College 98-72 yesterday at Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.
Bryan Ngo added 21 points on 8-for-12 shooting for the Vulcans (6-2), who outrebounded the Blueboys 55-33 en route to the victory.
Lopes to be first Hall of Fame Inductee
Chaminade will hold its inaugural intercollegiate athletics gala Feb. 6, 2009 at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. Famed basketball coach Merv Lopes will be honored as the first inductee into the Silverswords Hall of Fame.
The event also features Hall of Fame offensive tackle Anthony Munoz as the keynote speaker.
