The public caught their first glimpse of three recently born Sumatran tiger cubs at the Honolulu Zoo yesterday.

The three boy cubs were born Sept. 15, and have been in the care of zookeepers and their mother.

The cubs were given Samoan, Hawaiian and Indonesian names. Malosi means “;strong”; or “;powerful”; in Samoan. Keahi is “;fire”; in Hawaiian and Tondi means “;spiritual”; in Indonesian. The tigers are native to Indonesia.

Mayor Mufi Hannemann also announced that Stephen Walker, currently the director of the Tulsa zoo in Oklahoma, will become director of the Honolulu Zoo. He succeeds Ken Redman, who retired earlier this year.
