Stuck and drifting boats prove stubborn

Two boat owners are working to remove their vessels that foundered last week in the Ala Moana area, a state Department of Land and Natural Resources spokeswoman said.
Manukai, a 55-foot sailing vessel, ran onto its side outside the Ala Wai Boat Harbor on Saturday while struggling with engine trouble.
On Thursday the 40-foot Sailvation broke up on the rocks outside Magic Island in bad weather. The owner of that vessel has until today to cut up and remove the boat, Land Department spokeswoman Deborah Ward said.
Sailvation's diesel fuel washed into the lagoon, and “;no swimming”; signs were posted, she said.
Meanwhile, the Coast Guard was monitoring a yacht that ran aground 700 feet off of Kapapaa Island in Kaneohe Bay at 10:30 p.m. Saturday.
The Coast Guard received an emergency radio signal from the Cosmic California, a 40- to 50-foot white, double-masted sailing vessel. The yacht was drifting slightly and taking on water, but there was no one aboard.
Helicopter crews from the Coast Guard and Honolulu Fire Department searched the area for the boat's crew Saturday night.
A Coast Guard HH-65 rescue helicopter crew resumed searching yesterday.
The Coast Guard determined yesterday that the vessel operator made it to shore uninjured Saturday night during heavy rains and didn't know how to notify authorities.
