Services for former state Rep. and Maui Councilman Robert H. Nakasone will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Ballard Family Mortuary in Kahului.

Friends may call after 1 p.m.

Nakasone, 68, of Kahului, served 16 years in the state House beginning in 1992 and had just won re-election in November.

He also served 10 years on the County Council, ending in 1989 as Council chairman.

Nakasone also was the owner of Ameritone Maui. He was born in Paia, Maui. He is survived by wife Ruth, sons Byon and Vance, daughter Joni McGinnis, mother Doris, brother Jay, sister Karen Lederer, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The family requests no flowers and no monetary gifts.

Nakasone died last Sunday after a long fight with lung cancer.
