Chaminade president earns honor
Chaminade University will honor its eighth and longest-serving president, Mary “;Sue”; Wesselkamper, during its winter commencement ceremony Monday at 7 p.m., in the Neal Blaisdell Concert Hall.
Wesselkamper, who is on a medical leave of absence because of a recurrence of cancer, will be awarded the university's degree of Doctor of Humane Letters, Honoris Causa.
During the latest major fundraising drive, Wesselkamper has raised more than $66 million for Chaminade over the last nine years.
“;Sue is genuinely loved by faculty, staff and students of the Chaminade ohana,”; said Brother Bernard Ploeger, Chaminade's acting president.
About 260 Chaminade students will receive their degrees at the graduation ceremony. Adm. Timothy Keating, commander of the U.S. Pacific Command, will be the commencement guest speaker.
