Moore knocks out former champion

Carissa Moore scored the upset of the day at the Billabong Pro Maui yesterday, eliminating former ASP world champion Sofia Mulanovich of Peru.
Moore scored a two-wave total of 12.50 out of a possible 20 to advance to the semifinals while Mulanovich, who is currently ranked No. 2 on the World Tour, only managed 5.75.
Silvana Lima had the best heat in the third round, scoring 18 point two-wave total to knock out Karina Petroni, who scored 11.75. Reigning world champ Stephanie Gilmore had no trouble with Paige Hareb, beating her with a two-wave total of 17.50 to Hareb's 9.85. Gilmore is chasing her first Vans Triple Crown of Surfing championship at Honolua Bay. She'll surf against Rebecca Woods in the quarter finals.
Hawaii surfers Megan Abubo and Melanie Bartels also advanced to the quarterfinals. Bartels will square off against Moore in quarter finals and Abubo will face Lima when competition resumes at the Billabong Pro Maui at Honolua Bay.
