Board forms are available online

Candidate applications and voter registration forms for the 2009 neighborhood board elections are now available on the Internet.

The elections will be held in April and May for 445 seats for boards across the island.

The neighborhood board system was created in 1973 to increase and assure citizen participation in government. Board members hold monthly meetings and serve as advisers on community concerns.

Residents who voted in this year's state election are pre-registered to vote in the neighborhood board elections. Those who did not vote, changed residences or are noncitizen residents must file a voter registration form in order to vote in the neighborhood board elections.

Candidate applications and voter registration forms can be downloaded at http://www.honolulu.gov/nco. The deadline to submit completed forms is Feb. 20.
