ABC Music liquidating inventory
ABC Music will be liquidating its more than $500,000 in inventory Sunday after earlier closing its Cooke Street location.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Honolulu Symphony and its programs for the community.
The auction, which will be conducted by Pacific Bid LLC, will start at 10 a.m. at Kawananakoa School, 49 Funchal St., Building D-Dining room 48. Special previews are scheduled for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Sunday. Bids also may be submitted at proxybid.com, and a full inventory of items is available for viewing is at pacificbid.com.
ABC Music, an authorized dealer of Yamaha musical instruments, will be selling Yamaha keyboards, Upright Clavinova pianos, Baby Grand pianos, violins, acoustic bass, electric guitars, ukuleles, saxophones, trumpets, clarinets and music accessories.

State unemployment pay extended
Seven weeks of additional federal jobless benefits are available for Hawaii unemployed workers who have exhausted their 26 weeks of regular unemployment benefits and 13 weeks of Emergency Unemployment Compensation, the state Department of Labor and Industrial Relations said yesterday. The additional compensation could aid up to 5,000 people, the Labor Department said.
The additional extension under the Unemployment Compensation Extension Act of 2008 was signed by President Bush on Nov. 21 and became effective Nov. 23.

Aloha Petroleum expands selection
Aloha Petroleum's ethanol-free Aloha Classic Gasoline is now available on the Waianae coast. The 7-Eleven store at 85-830 Farrington Hwy. in Waianae is carrying the gasoline, rated a minimum 89-octane and containing a detergent additive. Aloha Classic is formulated for boat engines and other small engines that can be damaged by ethanol-blended gasoline.
A&B sells Sacramento building
A&B Properties Inc. said yesterday it has sold Venture Oaks, a 100,000-square-foot, five-story office building in Sacramento, Calif., to KBS City Gate Plaza LLC for an undisclosed price. The property's primary tenant, occupying 87 percent of the building, is the state of California Compensation Insurance Fund.
The Alexander & Baldwin Inc. subsidiary's commercial property/investment portfolio now comprises 7.5 million square feet of retail, office and industrial space in Hawaii and eight mainland states, including two office buildings in Sacramento.

» Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort & Spa has named Paul Matsumoto as director of food and beverage. He was previously a restaurant manager at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel and general manager for Alan Wong's Restaurant, The Pineapple Room.
» The University of Hawaii Board of Regents has named Dr. Michele Carbone as interim director of The Cancer Research Center of Hawaii. He replaces Dr. Carl Wilhelm-Vogel, who resigned in November. Carbone currently serves as director of the center's Thoracic Oncology Program and chair of the John A. Burns School of Medicine Department of Pathology.
