More than 2,000 people are expected to attend the National Park Service and the Navy's joint memorial ceremony commemorating the 67th anniversary of the Japanese attack at Pearl Harbor's Kilo Pier Sunday from 7:40 to 9:30 a.m.

The theme of the program is “;Pacific War Memories: The Heroic Response to Pearl Harbor.”;

Thomas C. Griffin, a Doolittle Raider, and Adm. Robert F. Willard, commander of the Pacific Fleet, will serve as keynote speakers for the commemoration, which will center on efforts to turn the tide in the Pacific.

In April 1942, Lt. Col. Jimmy Doolittle led a flight of bombers off the aircraft carrier USS Hornet in a sneak attack against Japan. It was America's first strike against Japan after the attack on Oahu.

At 7:55 a.m., the moment the Pearl Harbor attack began 67 years ago, a moment of silence will be observed.

The Pearl Harbor-based destroyer USS Chung-Hoon will render honors to the USS Arizona. The Hawaii Air National Guard will fly over in a “;missing man”; formation.

Other ceremonies scheduled:

» 10 a.m. The ashes of Pearl Harbor survivor Lt. Wayne Max- well will be scattered at the USS Utah Memorial on Ford Island.

» 4 p.m. The ashes of a survivor of the USS Arizona—Charles Guerin—will be laid inside the hull of the sunken battleship.

On Saturday a special flag-raising ceremony, hosted by the Barbers Point Navy League and the National Park Service, will be held at the Barbers Point Golf Course clubhouse. The site was once part of Marine Corps Air Station Ewa.
