Ryan Mouton's sprained ankle could keep him out of Hawaii's game against Washington State on Saturday. But head coach Greg McMackin didn't completely rule out the senior defensive back just yet.

“;The trainers don't feel he can play, but Mouton's a different kind of person,”; McMackin said in his news conference yesterday. “;We wouldn't play him ... and mess him up for the next game, but he does heal fast. We just have to check and see. The trainers are going to work on him and we'll go from there.”;

Mouton was injured while returning a fumble in the first quarter of Hawaii's win over Idaho and was walking in a protective boot yesterday. He said an X-ray on his ankle didn't show any fracture in his ankle.

“;I don't know,”; Mouton said of his status for Washington State. “;I just have to rehab. We just have to see.”;

Mouton started at free safety last week and said he suffered the injury at the end of the return when, “;the guy tackled me and kept rolling and my foot was stuck.”;

Safety Erik Robinson is optimistic he'll be ready this week after sitting out most of the Idaho game with a sore hamstring.

“;I just wasn't ready, tried to force myself, but my body wasn't ready,”; Robinson said. “;It's feeling a whole lot better. I'm real confident about this week.”;

Hawaii (6-5) opened as a 28-point favorite over Washington State (2-10) and needs one more win to earn a berth in the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl.
