Mason, Okino take Hawaii Open
Former Hawaii-Hilo golfer Nick Mason carded five birdies and two eagles in a final-round 8-under 64 to finish at 9-under 135 and beat Kalani Kiaaina by two strokes for the Hawaii State Open golf title at the Hawaii Prince Golf Course yesterday.
Mason earned $7,000 for his win. The tournament was shortened to two rounds after rain washed out play on Saturday. PGA Tour pro Dean Wilson finished tied for fifth place after shooting a 70 yesterday.
Leland Lindsay (67-68—135) beat Casey Nakama by a stroke for the senior title, and Punahou's Cyd Okino (72-72—144) won the women's title for a third year in a row by beating Kristina Merkle in a playoff.
'Iolani freshman Lorens Chan (72-67—139) was the low amateur.
