Nancy Partika president-elect of national Delta Omega

Nancy Partika, with the John A. Burns School of Medicine, is the first Hawaii member of the national Delta Omega Honorary Society to be named its president-elect. She is the maternal and child health leadership program director and principal investigator in the medical school's Office of Public Health Sciences and president of the Hawaii Delta Omega Chapter.

Dr. Danny Takanishi Jr., with the John A. Burns School of Medicine, was voted chairman-elect of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education Transitional Year Residency Review Committee. He is the UH medical school's chief of surgery and program director of the general surgery residency program. His three-year term on the committee that evaluates and accredits residency training programs will begin in July.

The Korea Foundation awarded $250,000 to the University of Hawaii at Manoa's Center for Korean Studies in a matching gift to establish a Rotating Chair Endowment of $1 million. The center has raised more than $600,000.

Ray Soon, former chairman of the Hawaiian Homes Commission, was appointed vice president of the nonprofit Native Hawaiian Economic Alliance, founded in 2002 to provide education training and information to locally owned businesses.

Soon is chairman of a small technology firm in Waimanalo and founding chairman of the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement.
