Sellitto loses in return to HPU

Warner Pacific beat Hawaii Pacific 88-80 in a college basketball game last night at Mid-Pacific Institute, spoiling Tony Sellitto's coming-out-of-retirement party.

Adam Moore was the game's high scorer with 29 points as the Knights (3-0) trailed at halftime by 17 but outscored the Sea Warriors 57-38 after the break.

Guards Jason Curtis and Rishi Kakad led HPU (0-1) with 28 and 27 points.

Sellitto coached HPU to an NAIA national championship in 1993 and retired in 2002 due to health issues with 298 career victories. Last night was his first regular-season game since returning to the Sea Warriors' helm.

 

Kotaka captures karate world title

Hawaii's George Kotaka won a WKF World Karate Championship in Tokyo last weekend.

Kotaka beat Adam Kovacs of Hungary in the final to finish the tournament at 6-0.

Elisha Au of Hawaii won a silver medal at the event. She won four matches before losing in her final.

Price is conference player of week

Hawaii-Hilo senior Brandon Price was named as the Pacific West Conference player of the week in basketball yesterday.

Price had 15 points and 17 rebounds in a loss to Warner Pacific.
