The Hawaii women's volleyball team started the week with the same ranking—No. 6—but a different setter.
WAHINE VOLLEYBALL WAC Tournament: Boise State at Hawaii, 7:30 p.m. Thursday, KFVE, Ch. 5; KKEA 1420-AM. |
Junior Stephanie Brandt was the setter for the first team during yesterday morning's practice. Sophomore Dani Mafua, who pulled a hamstring during warmups Saturday, sat out the session.
“;I set last year so it's not all that different,”; Brandt said after practice. “;I feel good. I've worked with everybody.”;
“;It's not a big adjustment,”; Rainbow Wahine coach Dave Shoji said. “;Steph sets the ball a little higher, but some of our hitters like that.
“;The thing is you just don't know how long (Mafua) will be out. Her injury is one of those things that could get better right away or not.”;
For the moment sophomore libero Elizabeth Ka'aihue is taking repetitions as the backup setter.
Hawaii (23-3) hosts the Western Athletic Conference tournament for the first time beginning Thursday.
The Rainbow Wahine, WAC co-champions, face Boise State in Thursday's 7:30 p.m. match.
Yesterday, there was no movement among the top 11 of the AVCA Division I Coaches Top 25. Penn State (28-0) remained the unanimous No. 1, followed by Stanford (22-3), Nebraska (25-1), Texas (21-3) and Washington (21-4).
