2 groups donate $5,000 to Catholic Charities Hawaii

Hawaii Business Equipment and Toshiba America donated $5,000 to Catholic Charities Hawaii, recognizing the nonprofit as a major contributor and support group for the community through its more than 30 programs.
American Savings Bank's 48 branches collected new and gently used Halloween costumes and accessories in support of Big Brothers Big Sisters as part of its “;First Saturday”; program Nov. 1. All branches serve as collection points for donated items for a designated nonprofit organization on the first Saturday of every month. Big Brothers Big Sisters helps 1,000 children a year on Oahu, Kauai and Maui.
Wal-Mart stores in Hawaii donated $10,000 to the Hawaii State Science Olympiad for its 2009 Science Olympiad, a series of events designed to help improve the quality of science education.
Kapolei Property Development honored 10 winners of the 15th Annual Leeward Young Artist Awards. They were chosen from more than 300 entries, representing 17 Leeward Oahu public schools: Hailey Paschel, kindergarten, Iroquois Point Elementary School; Henri Harilal, grade 5, Manana Elementary School; Kelli Ann Ulep, grade 6, Manana Elementary; Nicole Cristobal, grade 7, Highlands Intermediate School; Raquel Lasconia, grade 7, Kapolei Middle School; Aryss Peralta, grade 8, Highlands Intermediate; Jennifer Wong, grade 8, Kapolei Middle; Heidi Neidheart, grade 11, Waianae High School; Sunny Nohara, grade 11, Kapolei High School; and Daniel Remigio, grade 12, Campbell High School.
