Wade Keliikipi is getting a head start in his preparation for college football with the help of a brother who knows what awaits him.
The Waianae High senior committed to Hawaii this week and is hitting the weight room with the guidance of former Warriors running back West Keliikipi.
“;He's helping me work on my strength and quickness,”; Wade Keliikipi said. “;It's rough.”;
Wade Keliikipi (6-foot-4, 275 pounds) just finished his senior season playing primarily defensive tackle for the Seariders and had also heard from Oregon, Michigan State and Cal before committing to UH.
“;It's a big load off my chest,”; Keliikipi said. “;The bottom line is my education is being paid for.”;
Waianae coach Daniel Matsumoto described Keliikipi as an “;impact player”; for the Seariders.
“;He had a great season—mentally tough player and a good leader. He was a good captain for us,”; Matsumoto said.
As for following his brother to UH, Keliikipi said he wants to create his own identity at UH, but acknowledges “;I'll have some big shoes to fill.”;
