‘Ka‘iulani' scenes to play on Maui

Selected scenes from the new play “;Ka'iulani, the Island Rose,”; will be performed twice this weekend on Maui in benefit events.
The play, by Jennifer Fahrni and Carol Harvie-Yamaguchi, will be performed by Kathy Collins as Ka'iulani, with Wilmont Kahaialii, Brado, Hamish Burgess and the Tava Nui Tahitian Drummers providing accompaniment of island music, jazz, bagpipes and Tahitian drums.
A 6 p.m. Saturday performance at Lahaina United Methodist Church will raise funds for Julie Wood, senior criminalist with the Maui Police Department, part of an effort to raise $200,000 for her cancer care. Donations will be collected. Call (808) 661-3320.

The script for “;The Island Rose”; was produced under the Ka'iluani Project, a celebration of the legacy of Hawaiian Crown Princess Victoria Ka'iulani Cleghorn. It will premiere later as a full production on Maui.
