Waianae volunteer wins top AARP award

Waianae resident Rodlyn Brown received AARP Hawaii's 2008 Andrus Award for Community Service, the association's most prestigious volunteer award.
Brown has served the Leeward community for the past seven years as counselor for AARP's Tax Aide program, president of AARP's Waianae Chapter, and as an advocacy and special events volunteer. In 2007 she coordinated a Walkable Communities Workshop to make Farrington Highway a safer place for pedestrians and cyclists.
Jeff Rich, University of Hawaii Institute for Astronomy fourth-year graduate student and outreach coordinator, is one of 46 students selected to represent NASA in their communities as recipients of the agency's International Year of Astronomy Student Ambassadors Program.
Sanne Higgins, Anton Krucky and Gulab Watumull are new members of the Bishop Museum's board of directors.
Higgins manages and directs the Higgins Family Foundation; Krucky co-founded and is president and chief executive officer of Tissue Genesis Inc.; and Watumull is a businessman and philanthropist.
Outgoing board member David Hulihe'e was recognized by museum officials for nine years of service on the board, including three as chairman.
