It was home sweet home court at Kapalama Heights.

Kamehameha swept Kamehameha-Maui 25-20, 25-19, 25-19 in the semifinals of the New City Nissan/HHSAA Girls Volleyball Division I State Championships last night at Kekuhaupi'o Gym to move one step closer to claiming its fourth straight state title.

Kamehameha improved to 19-2 for the season and takes on Punahou in an all-ILH final tonight at 8 at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Senior outside hitter Whitney Viveiros slammed 11 kills and hit .320 to lead a balanced attack that inexorably wore down the weary Maui Interscholastic League champion Warriors, who outlasted Moanalua in a grueling five-set quarterfinal on Thursday.

Alex Akana added eight kills, and Talia Jardin and Taylor Akana added six apiece for Kamehameha.

Kamehameha-Maui hung tough early in the first game, but Kamehameha slowly pulled away behind sophomore middle Jardin, who put down three kills and had two blocks.

Senior Koala Matsuoka's tough serve bedeviled Kamehameha-Maui, triggering a four-point run that pushed Kamehameha to a 21-16 lead.

Viveiros put down a kill to clinch the first set.

“;Last night, we really believed in ourselves,”; said Kamehameha-Maui coach Charles “;Bala”; Spencer. “;Tonight, we really didn't. (Kamehameha) presents a lot of problems that we don't see in the MIL. Because they have so many threats, we couldn't put up a double block and had to put up a single block a lot. (Kamehameha setter) Caitlyn (Andrade) did a great job opening it up for their hitters.”;

Kamehameha jumped out to an early 7-2 lead in the second game behind Jardin—who notched two of her match-high four blocks—along with stellar defense and rock-steady passing.

The dynamic Viveiros racked up four kills and an ace in the game, and middle Alex Akana added three.

Kamehameha steadily stretched its lead to 20-11, spurred by two Viveiros aces.

Kamehameha-Maui's Teilissa Tua put down two kills to bring her team within 23-19, but Vivieros restored order with another kill, as Kamehameha closed out the second game on a Maui hitting error.

Viveiros doled out credit to the soft-handed sets of Caitlyn Andrade, who tallied 33 assists for the night.

“;Caitlyn put up some really beautiful sets tonight,”; Viveiros said. “;We're out to prove that this is no rebuilding year. For us seniors, there's no doubt that we're going to leave it all out on the court.”;

“;You know Punahou is gonna be primed, so it's just a matter of us taking care of our side of the net,”; said Kamehameha coach Chris Blake. “;But I still don't think we've played our best game yet.”;
