“;Going Green”; is this year's theme for Leeward Community College Family Fun Fair. The 18th annual event includes plenty of family fun with games, interactive booths, exhibits, food and entertainment on Nov. 15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Pearl City campus.
In support of the “;Going Green”; theme, a variety of informational exhibits and activities that deal with sustainability and environmental responsibility will be featured, including water conservation education and xeriscape landscaping techniques. A drive-through recycling center will accept cans, bottles, printer cartridges, cell phones, laptops, household goods and clothing. The fair also will feature a local food market and a new car show that highlights energy efficient models. Native Hawaiian, ornamental and orchid plants will be available for sale and master gardeners will be available to answer gardening questions.
“;Discovery Square”; features a courtyard filled with more than 30 hands-on family activities. “;CSI Leeward”; is a mock crime scene where fairgoers collect and analyze evidence and clues to catch a criminal. A new exhibit, “;Rocket-On,”; lets families create their own rocket that harnesses wind power for blastoff, and “;Re-Works of Art”; presents an approach to creating wearable art and collectibles using recycled materials.
