Loss ends Wahine's soccer season

Nevada's Mackay Stadium continued to be unkind to the Hawaii women's soccer team.

The Rainbow Wahine fell to 0-4 in the Reno, Nev., stadium, losing their Western Athletic Conference tournament opener 2-1 to host Nevada last night.

Senior Alexis Choi scored her first goal of the season 10 minutes into the contest off a pass from senior Kristen Oshiro to give third-seeded Hawaii a 1-0 lead. The sixth-seeded Wolf Pack answered back with two goals before halftime to take the lead for good.

Hawaii ends the year at 8-7-4.

 

Hittle, Tsukano earn academic honors

Hawaii senior libero Tara Hittle and San Jose State junior libero Kristal Tsukano earned third-team academic all-district volleyball honors yesterday.

Hittle, who also plays for the Rainbow Wahine basketball team, has a 3.52 GPA in education. She was averaging 2.93 digs through Monday, ranking fourth on the UH career dig list.

Tsukano (Kamehameha '06) has a 3.69 GPA in biological science. She averages 3.38 digs and needs only 42 digs to become the sixth Spartan to have 1,000 digs.

BYUH suffers its first PacWest loss

Kelly Balanay put down 22 kills as Hawaii Pacific handed Brigham Young-Hawaii its first loss in Pacific West volleyball play last night, upseting the Seasiders 17-25, 26-24, 25-18, 25-21 at the Priory's Castle Gym.

The loss snapped a 13-match winning streak for BYUH (16-6, 12-1). The Seasiders, getting 11 kills from Agnes Tuilevuka, host Hawaii-Hilo (20-7, 9-4) tomorrow at 7 p.m.

HPU (11-13, 7-6) concludes its season tomorrow, hosting Chaminade (10-14, 4-9) in a 7 p.m. match at Castle Gymz
