The Hawaii women's volleyball team leaves tonight for three matches on the road with a new ranking.
The Rainbow Wahine (19-3) moved up a spot to No. 7 in yesterday's AVCA Division I Coaches Top 25, trading places with Oregon (19-5). Hawaii won both its Western Athletic Conference matches last week, and the Ducks split, falling at USC in five and outlasting host UCLA in five.
Penn State (24-0) remained the unanimous No. 1, receiving all 60 first-place votes. Stanford jumped two spaces from No. 4 to No. 2, and Nebraska (21-1) and Texas (17—3) slipped a spot after losses last week, the Huskers to No. 3 and the Longhorns to No. 4.
Washington (17-4) moved up one place to fifth, with Cal (19-3) sliding two spots to sixth.
The Wahine conclude regular-season WAC play at Boise State on Thursday, at Idaho on Saturday and at Fresno State on Monday.
Amian honored
San Jose State sophomore hitter Brianna Amian (Moanalua '07) was named the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week in volleyball yesterday, the first in her career.
Amian had two double-doubles last week as the Spartans went 1-1.
