'Wheel' airing Big Island whirl

“;Wheel of Fortune”; airs its Hawaii extravaganza beginning tomorrow on KHON/ Fox. Host Pat Sajak and faithful letter-turner Vanna White taped 20 episodes outdoors at the Hilton Waikoloa Village on the Big Island in September. Hawaii residents walked away with more than $1 million in cash and prizes.

The first week of shows, entitled “;Hawaii's Big Island,”; airs at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday through next Tuesday (weekdays only), with nine island contestants competing for prizes. It's followed by “;Best Friends Week”; Nov. 12 to 18, where buddies from the Big Island join others from Oahu and Maui. Additional weeklong topics include “;Wheel Goes Waikoloa,”; Nov. 19 to 25, and “;Second Honeymoon,”; which airs in February. Of course, all air dates are subject to change. Be sure to check the latest listings.

The show brought more than 200 staff and crew from Los Angeles to shoot in Hawaii, and hired another 200 people locally.

Chinatown has a new queen

Jenna-Lynn Kam was crowned 2009 Miss Chinatown Hawaii Queen Sunday at a ceremony a the Hawaii Theatre.

Kam, daughter of Wesley and Lynette Kam, is a graduate of Sacred Hearts Academy and works as a reservationist with the Hale Koa Hotel.

She will attend Kapiolani Community College and the University of Hawaii, pursuing a degree in culinary arts and business administration, with the goal of eventually opening an Asian fusion restaurant.

The 2008 Miss Chinatown Hawaii, Sherilynn Chang, passed on the crown. Kam, 23, will represent Hawaii in the 2009 Miss Chinatown USA pageant in San Francisco in January. Among her prizes is a scholarship from Hawaii Pacific University and a goodwill tour of China.
