HomeStreet Bank donates to charities

HomeStreet Bank celebrated the opening of its new Pearl City branch by donating $5,000 to The Salvation Army of Hawaii and Pacific Islands, and $2,500 to the Pearl City Foundation.
The Salvation Army will use the contribution in partnership with the Hawaiian Homes Commission to help provide food, clothing, furniture and household items to low-income families who have recently become unemployed.
Pearl City Foundation will use its donation revitalize the park area of the Momilani Community Center.
M. Nalani Fujimori received the C. Frederick Schutte Award from the Hawaii State Bar Association for outstanding and meritorious service to the legal community and the profession. She managed Legal Aid's Maui offices from 2001 until 2004, when she was appointed deputy director in Honolulu.
The Patsy Takemoto Mink Education Foundation for Low-Income Women and Children selected six women to receive education support grants for 2008. Recipients include Amber Lalawai of Waianae, who is working toward her bachelor of arts degree in social science at the University of Hawaii-West Oahu.
