Hawaii vs. mainland high school all-star football games have always been a hot ticket.

Fans will get a long-awaited taste of that old tradition on Dec. 12, when a mainland all-star team will play a Hawaii team represented by local seniors, UH-bound recruits and players of Polynesian ancestry at Aloha Stadium.

The new game, dubbed the Prep Challenge, will be part of a doubleheader. The early game will be the 18th annual HUB Senior Goodwill Classic, pitting the ILH's and OIA's top seniors in an East-West team format.

Mayor Mufi Hannemann and Hawaii High School Athletic Association executive director Keith Amemiya made the announcement yesterday at Aloha Stadium. The owner of the U.S. Army All-American Game is a key partner.

Amemiya noted that game officials can't name who the players will be, but it is widely believed that Punahou linebacker/running back Manti Te'o will be one of the Hawaii players.
