Hiker airlifted out of Kalihi Valley
A fire rescue helicopter took an injured hiker out of Kalihi Valley yesterday afternoon.
Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. Terry Seelig said a man in his 40s was hiking with his girlfriend in an area called Ice Pond when he fell from a waterfall and injured his arms and legs.
His girlfriend called for help from a cell phone at about 2:30 p.m., Seelig said, and firefighters hiked in and assessed his injuries.
The Fire Department helicopter lifted him to an ambulance waiting on Likelike Highway about a half-mile above the Burmeister overpass at about 3:25 p.m. The highway was closed in both directions for about 10 minutes.
No suspects in Sunset shooting
Police had no suspects yesterday in the shooting of a 17-year-old boy at his North Shore home Friday night.
Police said that at about 11 p.m. Friday, the boy was standing in front of his Sunset Beach home when he heard the distant sound of several gunshots.
The boy felt a pain in his arm and discovered a gunshot wound, police said. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

UH-Manoa student arrested in assault
A 22-year old University of Hawaii at Manoa dorm resident was arrested for allegedly assaulting another dorm resident at 2:30 a.m. yesterday and causing “;substantial injury”; to his face, police said.
The suspect was arrested at the Hale Wainani residence hall on suspicion of second-degree assault.
Police seek 2 men in Kalihi shooting
Police are looking for two men in connection with the shooting of a 16-year-old boy in a Kalihi park Friday night.
The boy was playing basketball at a park on Mokauea Street with friends when two men entered the park and ran toward him at about 6:15 p.m.
The boy ran away but was shot in his right ankle, police said. He was treated and released from the hospital for his gunshot wound.
The two men are described to be in their early 20s, but have not been identified by police.
