CRIB NOTES

Banking on art

;

Even in these tough economic times, many are banking on art, specifically works by artists for the official presidential campaign of Barack Obama, sold at www.barackobama.com. All 5,000 posters by artists Shepard Fairey and Scott Hansen—bound to be collectibles just for the historical aspect of the candidate's nomination—sold out at $70 each and are being auctioned on eBay for up to three times the price.

Shown is “;HOPE,”; by Robert Indiana, creator of the iconic “;LOVE”; artwork, inspired by the same. Although its design quietly supports the candidate, its universal message would work well on any modernist's living room wall. All 150 prints were signed; at press time 88 remain. The cost for each, donated to the Obama camp: $2,500.
