Engineers lauded for work on Lanai harbor

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Kaumalapau Harbor Breakwater Project on Lanai won the Outstanding Civil Engineer Award for 2008 from the American Society of Civil Engineers. The project also won the Pre-Cast/Pre-Stressed Concrete Institute 2008 Design Award for Custom Solutions.

  Bank of Hawaii Charitable Foundation gave the Hawaii State Junior Golf Association a $20,000 grant for its youth golf programs.

  The Haseko Training Fund awarded $15,000 to James Campbell High School's Agricultural Learning Center, which provides hands-on training for careers in landscaping, nursery management, golf course maintenance/management, crop production, government service, technology and entrepreneurship.

  The Hawaii Parkinson Association received $25,000 from the Hawaii Medical Services Association Foundation for the production of a professional video called “;MOVE IT!”; - an exercise and movement guide for patients with Parkinson's disease.
