3 arrested in bottle, gun attack

A bottle-throwing melee that started in Pearl City resulted in three arrests yesterday.

The three men allegedly attacked two men and pointed a pistol at a woman yesterday morning in Pearl City's industrial area.

According to police, at about 2:55 a.m. a 27-year-old man drove to his 51-year-old friend's workplace, parking on the sidewalk.

The three suspects approached the victim and pounded and kicked his vehicle, demanding that he get out.

As the victim drove off, the suspects threw bottles at the vehicle, cracking the front windshield. In two vehicles, the suspects then followed the victim, who returned to his friend's driveway.

When the older man walked into the street to try to take down the suspects' license plate numbers, a 20-year-old man driving one of the cars turned around and drove toward the older man, who had to jump out of the way.

The three suspects got out and threw bottles at the younger man, who was still in his vehicle in the driveway, cracking his rear windshield. They also broke the front windshield and two windows of a 47-year-old woman's vehicle.

A 19-year-old man pulled out a pistol and pointed it at the woman's head, threatening to shoot her, police said.

Police arrived and arrested the men at Waihona Street and Kamehameha Highway. Police booked the 20-year-old man on suspicion of second-degree attempted murder and two counts of first-degree criminal property damage, the 19-year-old man on suspicion of terroristic threatening and two counts of first-degree criminal property damage, and another 19-year-old man on suspicion of several counts of criminal property damage.

Marine arrested in sex assault

Police arrested an 18-year-old Marine Saturday who allegedly kidnapped and sexually assaulted a 19-year-old woman in Kaneohe.

The woman told police the man touched her inappropriately while she was inside his vehicle, then prevented her from leaving and from calling the police shortly before noon Saturday.

The man was arrested shortly afterward and released pending investigation.

Sprinklers curb fire in federal building

Sprinklers extinguished a small fire yesterday on the sixth floor of the Prince Kuhio Kalanianaole Federal Building.

Firefighters responded to the 12:49 p.m. alarm at 300 Ala Moana Blvd. and found the fire contained to a rubbish bin in the freight elevator room.

People evacuated on their own, said fire Capt. Robert Main. Crews mopped up water from sprinklers.
