Leave it to a freshman to come up with the big play on senior night.

Rachel Domingo sent the six Hawaii seniors out in style in their final home soccer game, scoring the key go-ahead goal in the second half to give the Rainbow Wahine a 4-2 victory over Louisiana Tech last night at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.

The victory moved Hawaii (6-6-4, 2-2-1 Western Athletic Conference) into a tie for third in the league with two league games remaining.

“;We played a really good game right from the beginning, even though we were losing,”; Hawaii coach Pinsoom Tenzing said. “;The entire WAC season has been tough, but if everyone stays healthy, I guarantee you we will go back to the NCAAs.”;

The Rainbow Wahine trailed two different times in the match before Ambree Ako's goal on a penalty kick 10 seconds into the second half tied the game at two.

Hawaii played Ping-Pong with the goal on Domingo's score, hitting the crossbar and post three different times in a matter of seconds before Domingo finally put the ball away for the first goal of her career.

Mari Punzal took a crossing pass from Kelsie Look and had her shot deflect off the crossbar. Domingo controlled the rebound and sent her shot off the same bar. It deflected to Taryn Fukuroku, who then hit the left goal post before Domingo finally got her shot to go in, although even that shot bounced off the post.

“;I was like 'O my gosh, why can't we just put this away already,' “; Domingo said. “;We really did need this win just to get us upbeat going into the WAC tournament.”;

The Lady Techsters, who haven't had much success against Hawaii, gave the Rainbow Wahine all they could handle, especially early. Louisiana Tech hadn't scored a goal in three previous meetings against the Rainbow Wahine, getting outscored 9-0, but put an end to that streak with two in the first half.

Olivia Lukasewich got free behind Hawaii's defense and put a pass from Hikari Kurokawa into the net for the first score in the 12th minute.

The Rainbow Wahine answered as Nicole Mikula booted a free kick off the left goal post and into the net to even the score.

That tie would last barely a minute as Louisiana Tech was given a penalty kick after Chelsea Deptula was called for a handball in the penalty box. Amy Wolsted took the kick and drilled a shot past goalkeeper Kori Lu to put the Lady Techsters back in front 2-1.

“;I told the team to do nothing different,”; Tenzing said about his halftime speech. “;If we played the same way in the second half, I knew we would win.”;

Fukuroku added an insurance goal in the 84th minute, tying her with Ako for the team lead with six.

Hawaii hits the road for its final two games of the regular season against Boise State and Idaho before heading to Reno for the WAC tournament Nov. 6-9.
