» Radford vs. Campbell, Friday, Nov. 7, at Aloha Stadium, 4:30 p.m.

Host Campbell thumped Kalaheo 42-13 in a do-or-die semifinal contest last night in the Oahu Interscholastic Association White playoffs — a rematch of one of the final regular-season games in the division.

The Sabers clinched a berth in the HHSAA Division II state tournament next month and advanced to the OIA White championship game behind 253 yards and three total touchdowns from senior quarterback Lalo Respicio, while the Mustangs (7-3) saw their season come to an end.

Campbell (9-1) plays Radford on Nov. 7 at Aloha Stadium for the White title.

Campbell, the White's No. 2 seed, absorbed an early shot in the mouth by third-seeded Kalaheo when the Mustangs recovered a Sabers fumble on the opening kickoff at Campbell's 15. Dwayne Mitchell quickly punched in a score on just two plays for an early 7-0 lead.

But once Respicio went to work, the outcome became very similar to the Sabers' 34-15 triumph on Kalaheo's senior night. Junior slotback Samson Anguay put on a show with a 42-yard TD off a shovel from Respicio, and following an impressive run by Arthur Aiwohi to set up another score. Anguay returned a Kalaheo punt 58 yards for the third of four straight Campbell touchdowns to close the first half.

Respicio finished 19-for-30 with no interceptions.

The Mustangs' morale was sapped as two straight Campbell kickoffs to start the second half were fumbled back into the hands of the Sabers, leading to two more scores by the home team — a Daniel Masifilo 32-yard grab for a score from Respicio and a 1-yard keeper TD by backup signal-caller Damon Fuentes.

Kalaheo quarterback Phil Tauai stopped the bleeding by running in a 9-yard score at the end of the third quarter, but by then, the damage was done — Campbell had scored six straight times to go up 42-7.

Kalaheo's two-way warriors yielded their highest point total of the season for the second straight game, both to Campbell.

Campbell remained unbeaten with Respicio at the helm. The only loss this year for coach Amosa Amosa came with his top signal-caller out with an illness.

The game was moved a day earlier because of a Sunset on the Beach event in Ewa Beach, then the game started about an hour late because a late arrival by the Kaiser junior varsity team.
