Red Cross honors heroes throughout isles

The American Red Cross honored these volunteers as Red Cross Heroes: Benny Abrigado, Lifesaver Hero, for administering CPR to save a co-worker; Otto Giron, hospital corpsman second class, Military Hero, for screening detainees in Iraq for infectious diseases; Bouvey Bradbury, lifeguard, In the Line of Duty Hero, for saving the life of a man trapped underwater in a cave at Yokohama Bay; Morganna Hayes, Youth Hero, for organizing and helping to lead the Red Cross Club at Mid-Pacific Institute; Kula Haimoto, a therapy dog, and handler Rinsei Haimoto, Animal Hero, for volunteering more than 500 hours visiting patients, family and staff at Tripler Army Medical Center as part of the Human Animal Bond Program; Roger Compton, posthumous Oahu Red Cross Volunteer of the Year Award, for being a Disaster Action Team captain who responded to numerous disasters here and on the mainland; Larry Leedom, West Hawaii Volunteer of the Year, for coordinating and teaching at annual free CPR events; Verna Dias, East Hawaii Volunteer of the Year, for helping disaster relief efforts locally and nationally; Jordan Nagasako, Maui County Volunteer of the Year, for maintaining the emergency response vehicle, working with clients, setting up emergency shelters and aiding disaster victims; Robert Anderson, Kauai County Volunteer of the Year, for strengthening ties with other nonprofit and government agencies and assisting in disaster exercises.
