Fukuroku wins it for Hawaii
Hawaii senior Taryn Fukuroku scored the game-winning goal in overtime to give the Rainbow Wahine a 2-1 victory over San Jose State last night in their Western Athletic Conference home opener at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
Fukuroku's fourth goal of the season came in the 93rd minute on a free kick. Kristyn Shapka touched the ball and Fukuroku drilled a line drive into the lower left of the goal for the score.
Hawaii (5-5-4, 1-1-1) has gone into overtime in nine of its 14 games this season, compiling a 3-2-4 record.
After a scoreless first half, sophomore Chelsea Deptula headed a corner kick past SJSU goalkeeper Nina Butera for a goal in the 47th minute to put Hawaii up 1-0. The Spartans answered 3 minutes later on a goal by Emmy Belding.
Hawaii outshot the Spartans 22-4. The Rainbow Wahine wrap up their home season with conference games against Utah State and Louisiana Tech on Oct. 24 and 26.

Tuilevuka wins weekly award
Brigham-Young Hawaii junior Agnes Tuilevuka was named the conference's player of the week after averaging 5.33 points per game in three victories by the Seasiders.
Tuilevuka hit .417 with 47 kills and two block assists in nine games last week. The Seasiders swept all three matches.
Sea Warriors men, women lose
It was a tough end to the week for the Hawaii Pacific men's and women's soccer teams. Both teams lost 4-0 to Notre Dame de Namur yesterday at Belmont, Calif.
Veronica Ellman made nine saves for the Sea Warriors women, who gave up three second-half goals.
Matt Terry came up with four saves in eight shots on goal for the Sea Warriors men, who dropped to 4-2 in league play.
» The Hawaii-Hilo women's soccer team defeated Grand Canyon 1-0, and the UHH and GCU men's teams battled to a scoreless tie yesterday in Phoenix.
Megan Pachecano scored the only goal of the game for the Vulcans women, who improved to 5-1 in league play.
Goalkeeper Ivan Mercado had six saves for the HPU men's squad, which is now 7-3-2 overall and 2-2-2 in the conference.
Pachecano was named the conference's player of the week with five points in three games, including yesterday's goal.
