Filipino poetry gets boost at state library

Emerging Filipino talent in the art of poetry will be featured Saturday in a free reading at the Hawaii State Library.

“;Flippin' on Poetry”; presents six local poets in a celebration of Filipino-American History Month. Amalia Bueno, Gigi Miranda, Elmer Omar Pizo, ChristyAnne Passion, Darlene Rodrigues and Normie Salvador will read from their work, a diverse collection of poems that reflect immigrant, local and part-Filipino perspectives.

The 2 p.m. event is free. A question-and-answer session and a reception will follow.

The event is sponsored by the Filipino-American Historical Society of Hawaii and the Friends of the Library
