Happy 20th to the Contemporary
On Wednesday, The Contemporary Museum is celebrating its 20th anniversary all day long with free entry, free tours—and free cupcakes (while they last). In fact, the celebration lasts all month, with free admission throughout October.
The museum, located at 2411 Makiki Heights Drive, is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays to Saturdays and noon to 4 p.m. Sundays. Call 526-1322.
Here's a schedule of the free tours:
» 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.: Historical tour of Spalding House and Nu'umealani Gardens
» 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.: Exhibition tour of “;The Puppet Show”; with artists Deborah Nehmad (morning) and Kit Kowalke (afternoon)

Kodama's eateries celebrate year 4
Chef D.K. Kodama's Waikiki restaurants—Sansei Seafood Restaurant & Sushi Bar and d.k Steak House—both celebrate their fourth anniversaries with special menus offered from Friday through Oct. 27.
At Sansei a five-course omakase menu offers a Fresh Oyster with Ponzu Green Onions, New York Steak Carpaccio Roll, Scallop & Prosciutto “;Musubi,”; Asian Braised Duck Breast and Poached Asian Pear. Cost is $38, $45 with wine and martini pairings. Call 931-6286.
d.k Steak House offers a “;Cow-Cow”; Fest, with Maui Cattle Co. grass-fed beef products and organic produce from local farms. Chef Jason Miyasaki is offering a family-style dinner for two that includes choice of Kula Asparagus Salad or Maui Onion Soup, two 12-ounce boneless rib-eye steaks (one aged 28 days), baked potato, Oven-Roasted Brussels Sprouts and Chocolate Chip Bread Pudding. Cost is $54.95 per person. For singles, Maui Cattle Co. 12-ounce New York strip steak ($28.95) and 12-ounce rib eye ($29.95) are served with three sauces: gomadare, au poivre and bearnaise. Regular menus will be available in both restaurants, which are located in the Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa. Dinner hours are 5:30 to 10 p.m.
Foodland, brewer team up for meal
Foodland supermarkets and Samuel Adams are teaming up in an Oktoberfest beef dinner, 6 p.m. Friday at the Willows. Lili Hess of Boston Beer Co. will introduce each of the beers.
Chef Jay Matsukawa's menu, based on ingredients found at Foodland and Sack N Save stores: Grilled Wild Mushrooms (with Boston Lager), Roasted Corn & Leek Chowder with Spicy Crab (Oktoberfest beer), Drunken Roast Chicken & Garlic Potatoes (Winter Lager), Grilled Certified Angus Tri-Tip Steak (Black Lager) and Classic Baked White Peach Pie (Coffee Stout and Blackberry Wheat).

Mondavi hosts Ruth's Chris dinner
Third-generation winemaker Peter Mondavi Jr. will host a winemaker dinner featuring the wines of Charles Krug, 6 p.m. Wednesday at Ruth's Chris Steak House in Restaurant Row.
Mondavi, of the famed C. Mondavi & Sons family, now leads the Charles Krug Napa Valley brand.
The menu: King Crab Cocktail with Calamansi Lime (with Charles Krug Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2007), Braised Boneless Shortribs, (Napa Valley Merlot 2005), Bone-in Filet with Roasted Fingerling Potato Hash and Wilted Braising Greens (Zinfandel 2004) and Sin Cake (Generation 2004).
