Man who drowned was from Poland
Kauai police identified Klaudiusz Piotr Dragun as the drowning victim found Monday at Hanakapiai.
Dragun, 25, from Poland, hiked from Kee Beach to Hanakapiai on Monday and, witnesses said, went for a swim. Within minutes he was overcome by the strong current and swept out to sea. Lifeguards found him 200 yards off Hanakapiai Beach after a brief search.
Dragun is the 15th drowning victim of the year on the Garden Isle, which is just two shy of the record, set in 1980.

Suspect allegedly stabs teen in head
Police arrested a 27-year-old man who allegedly stabbed a 16-year-old boy in the head early yesterday morning in Kalihi.
Police said the man and teen were hanging out early yesterday but began arguing at about 2:30 a.m. The 27-year-old allegedly stabbed the boy in the head, causing a 3-inch cut.
The teen was taken to a Honolulu hospital where he was treated and released.
Worker suspected in check thefts
Police arrested a 33-year-old man yesterday for allegedly stealing more than $52,000 in cash and traveler's checks from his employer.
The man, who began working as the manager of the Waikiki business on April 27, was responsible for depositing the daily sales beginning May 6.
When an audit was conducted, $52,072 in cash and traveler's checks were missing and had not been deposited for sales for the period of July 15-29, police said.
Police said an employee saw the manager allegedly taking the bank deposit bag with money from the sales for July 27-29 and leaving the store. On Aug. 6 the business called police to report the theft.
The man was arrested yesterday on suspicion of second-degree theft.

Police investigate flaming driveway
Police are looking for a person who poured an apparently flammable liquid on a Waipahu woman's driveway and set fire to it.
The incident was caught on a surveillance system, police said.
The 52-year-old woman reported seeing the individual pouring liquid onto the pavement of her driveway. After a few seconds the suspect ignited the liquid, partially burning her garage wall and door.
The case is classified as second-degree arson.
