Gold medalist Bryan Clay to appear at Kids Fest

This month's Kids Fest at Bishop Museum will have a very special guest in American decathlete and Beijing Olympics gold medalist Bryan Clay.

To help promote health awareness for Hawaii Pacific Health, Clay will be at the event all day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday to meet fans and sign autographs.

With Halloween approaching, kids will be able to get a jump start by going trick-or-treating throughout the museum grounds to receive educational materials as well as goodies. Surprise adventures for children, hands-on activities for teens, and games and contests for the whole family will be featured all day.

The Laughing Samoans performing at Blaisdell

Ever since their appearance at the 2003 New Zealand Fringe Festival, Eteuati Ete and Tofiga Fepulea'i—aka The Laughing Samoans—have delighted audiences throughout the Pan-Pacific area and the West Coast. The comic duo return to Honolulu with their latest show, “;Crack Me Off.”; The guys take clean, good-natured jibes at their people's personalities and the native culture they love.

Ete and Fepulea'i grew up together at the Wellington EFKS (Samoan Congregational Christian) church, where Ete's father continues to serve as minister and Fepulea'i's father is a lay preacher. Ete is considered an elder statesmen of Pacific Island comedy, while Fepulea'i is called one of its brightest young stars.

School benefit features HAPA, hula and food

The Hawaiian music duo of HAPA will be featured at this year's fall festival fundraiser Sunday at Windward Adventist School.

Besides the music of Barry Flanagan and Nathan Aweau, there will be other hula and music performances, plus food and games.

The school, located at 160 Mo'okua St. in Kailua, is a fully accredited educational institution, operating a traditional kindergarten-to-eighth-grade school with a special emphasis on Christian values.

The fest starts at 2 p.m., with HAPA performing at 5. Tickets are $12 presale and $15 at the gate.

Musical event marks organist’s 80th birthday

Nyle Hallman, organist emeritus at Central Union Church, will be honored with a tribute in celebration of her 80th birthday.

The church, located at 1660 S. Beretania St., will host an “;Organ Spectacular!”; at 7 p.m. Sunday featuring organ and harp solos and duets. Special works will include compositions by Bach, Barclay, Britten and Burton, as well as a piece for organ and oboe titled “;Ornament of Grace”; by Bernard Wayne Sanders, the first-prize winner of an international competition coordinated specifically for the concert series.

Besides honoree Hallman, other performers will include the church's principal organist Margaret Lloyd and Constance Harding Uejio, principal harpist with the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra.
