UH leaves light at QB

POSTED: Thursday, October 16, 2008

The Hawaii football team departed for Idaho yesterday a little lighter at the quarterback spot.

Hawaii (3-3, 2-1 Western Athletic Conference) at No. 15 Boise State (5-0, 1-0)

        When: 2 p.m., tomorrow

Radio: KKEA, 1420-AM

After taking four quarterbacks on their earlier trips this season, the Warriors are carrying three for tomorrow's game against No. 15 Boise State and shuffled the assignments when sophomore Brent Rausch was declared ineligible for the Western Athletic Conference contest.

“;I just learned (yesterday) morning, due to a clerical error, at no fault of the coaches, Brent Rausch will not be eligible for this week's game,”; Hawaii coach Greg McMackin said in a release. “;The UH faculty athletic representative informed me of the error last Friday and apologized. This error should have been caught earlier in the season. The NCAA will reinstate Brent after this week's game.”;

Tyler Graunke also wasn't included on the travel roster, with McMackin saying the senior was “;physically unable to play in our opinion.”;

Graunke injured his hand and wrist last month and hasn't played the last two games.

Starting quarterback Inoke Funaki took every snap in the Warriors' wins over Fresno State and Louisiana Tech and is backed up by junior Greg Alexander.

Senior Jake Santos was added to the travel party and will be the third-string quarterback tomorrow.

Funaki will face one of the nation's stingiest defenses when the Warriors (3-3, 2-1 Western Athletic Conference) face the Broncos (5-0, 1-0) tomorrow at Bronco Stadium. The game will be shown on ESPN. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. Hawaii time.
