Battleship Missouri Memorial gets grant

The McInerny Foundation gave $20,000 to the Battleship Missouri Memorial for a dental clinic restoration.

  Winners were announced in the third annual Duke's Ukes contest at Duke's Waikiki restaurant. They are: Elementary Division, ages 6 to 10: first place, Kau'i Ho'opi'i; second, Ryan Nakagawa; third, Trini Leung; Intermediate, ages 11-15: first, Noa Lee; second, David Ardo; third, Tamlyn Tamura; High School, ages 16-18: first, Garrett Wells; second, Rylan Tokioka; third, Micah Ganiron; Open Division, ages 19 and older: first, Daniel Nakashima; second, Paul Iinuma; third, Brandon Au. All first-place finishers received $100 gift certificates and a new Kamaka ukulele.

  Merriman's Waimea will donate 20 percent of all nightly food sales Nov. 1-19 to the following nonprofits: Hawaii Preparatory Academy, North Hawaii Community Hospital, Hawaii Island Land Trust, Hamakua County Farm Bureau, Waimea Country School, Kawaihae Canoe Club, North Hawaii Hospice, Hawaii Island United Way, Parker School, TREE Hawaii, Kanu o ka Aina, Kohala Hospital, Waimea Elementary School, Kahilu Theatre, Food Basket/Hawaii Island Food Bank, North Hawaii Women & Children's Services, Punana Leo o Waimea, Hawaii Island Humane Society and Tutu's House.
