Alu Like opening new library sites on Oahu and offering literacy programs

Alu Like, Inc.'s Native Hawaiian Library will open two new satellite library sites on Oahu and offer literacy programs at its eight statewide satellite sites with a $510,500 grant from the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services.
Alu Like also plans to initiate a pilot oral history project that would lead to an Oral History Center; and offer after-school tutoring programs for at-risk students.
The Hawaii State Department of Health handed out its 2008 DOH Incentive Service Awards. Eric Tash received the Employee of the Year award for his work in the Injury Prevention and Control Program; Aaron Ueno, acting district health officer, was named Manager of the Year for establishing, training and equipping emergency response teams, and using the Medical Reserve Corps of volunteers; the DOH Team of the Year is the statewide School Influenza Immunization Project Team, which implemented the 2007 Stop Flu at School Project that resulted in the immunization of more than 60,000 kindergarten through middle school students.
