Warriors want home field back
POSTED: Saturday, October 11, 2008
The buzz of a landmark road win is just starting to fade.
Looming ahead is another mainland trip to face a nationally ranked rival.
WARRIORS FOOTBALL Louisiana Tech (2-2, 0-1 WAC) at Hawaii (2-3, 1-1), 6:05 p.m. today TV: Oceanic PPV Ch. 255; Radio: KKEA 1420-AM |
But it's the task in between that has Hawaii's attention.
“;We have a few rules: a don't embarrass-the-program rule, a 48-hour rule (to move on from the previous game), and we have a rule to play one game a week,”; Warriors head coach Greg McMackin said. “;And believe me, they won't be looking ahead of anybody. Last time we were home we didn't win. So they're going to be focused on Louisiana Tech.”;
Back from their historic victory at Fresno State, the Warriors (2-3, 1-1 Western Athletic Conference) return to Aloha Stadium today to host Louisiana Tech (2-2, 0-1) on homecoming night. Kickoff is set for 6:05.
The Warriors, who lost to San Jose State in their last Aloha Stadium appearance, made up ground early in the WAC race with last week's overtime win in Fresno, Calif. Whether they're still in the conversation when they travel to Boise State next week will depend on how they respond against LaTech today.
Louisiana Tech, which lost to Hawaii 45-44 in overtime last year in Ruston, La., opened the season by beating Mississippi State. The Bulldogs' losses have come in road games against nationally ranked Kansas and Boise State.
Inoke Funaki remains at the controls of the Hawaii offense after turning in his best performance of the season last week. The Warriors defense faces a Louisiana Tech team that's struggled to find the end zone this season but features two dangerous running backs in Daniel Porter and Patrick Jackson, along with elusive receiver/kick returner Phillip Livas.
Hawaii leads the series with the Bulldogs 5-1 and is 3-0 against LaTech in Honolulu.
