Nagai blanks BeachBoys in HWB

Satoshi Nagai limited Waikiki to two hits over five shutout innings to lead the Honolulu Sharks to a 4-0 win in Hawaii WInter Baseball yesterday at Hans L'Orange Field.

Nagai has not allowed a run since his first start of the season on Sept. 28. He lowered his ERA to 0.64 and ran his record to 3-0 with 15 strikeouts and three walks.

Roy Merritt of the New York Mets threw a scoreless inning of relief for the Sharks (7-3) and Cardinals farmhand Blake King did the same.

» Boston farmhand Ryan Kalish hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to lead the North Shore Honu to a 5-4 comeback victory over the West Oahu CaneFires.

It was Kalish's third hit of the game. Moises Robles blew the save and took the loss for West Oahu while Matt Meyer of the Cleveland Indians earned the win with a scoreless ninth.

Seasiders edge Sea Warriors

Brigham Young-Hawaii's Emily Mearns scored in the 90th minute off an assist from Tasha Aiono to lift the Seasider women's soccer team over Hawaii Pacific University, 1-0, at Atherton Field.

BYUH improved to 8-3-1 overall, while HPU fell to 2-7.

» Vanessa Butin scored twice to lead Hawaii-Hilo over Chaminade, 4-0, at Kea'au High School.

The Vulcans (7-3) scored three goals in the first 24 minutes, including one by Adele Letro, and Megan Pachecano tacked on another score late. The Silverswords fell to 1-7.

» The Hawaii Pacific University men's soccer team prevailed over Brigham Young-Hawaii, 2-0, behind goals from Andre Whitt and Jim Terry in the second half.

The Sea Warriors improved to 4-3-1, while BYUH fell to 3-8-1.

» Dustin Daley pushed Hawaii-Hilo over Chaminade with two goals in the Vulcans' 3-0 shutout win over the Silverswords.

Gene Okamura added another score for UHH (6-2), which prevented Chaminade (1-11-1) from achieving its first conference victory.
